Dave Whenever we learn something, whatever it may be, we learn in segments. Truthfully, there is no exception to this. As big as any learning task my seem, it must start somewhere. It's certainly practical and helpful to look at the bigger picture, but you simply cannot digest it all at once. We are only able to "chew" one piece at a time.

That being said, the person who can readily accept that fact and is willing to place his or her focus entirely on each little "chew" is likely to ensure that it will be digested (understood) and accomplished a whole lot more efficiently. Would you agree? Just try to "chew it all at once" and what happens? The details that otherwise would have been well taken care of via the first approach would likely be overlooked.

There is no question about it... when you adopt the right "learning mind set," anything is possible. It has often been said: "Learning how to learn is life's most important skill."

During my 30+ years of coaching people on piano, there is one approach with them that has NEVER failed, regardless of what they were trying to accomplish - whether it's been learning a new scale, a chord progression, a challenging reading passage, a line of improvisation, or a new song.

This method has always met with success.

So, what is it?

"Take it in little bites, and chew it slowly."

Often has been the case when a new student entered my studio for the first time and, within a matter of 10-15 minutes, I just knew he or she was never taught how to learn. It was easy to see that almost anything that person tried to tackle seemed like an overwhelming task. But once I opened his or her mind to this approach I'm introducing you to, the "lights turned on" within a matter of seconds.

Since this has been so very successful for me, it shouldn't be any surprise that I implement this way of coaching in my online learning programs. And, now, I've capitalized on the convenience of the Web to offer you something I am particularly excited about...

As you might imagine, I receive a lot of email throughout the course of a day. A significant number of these messages are from people just like you who aspire to play their favorite popular songs but don't know where to turn. They've bought the books, CD's, and DVD's available out there... they've tried to put them to use, but something always seems to be missing. The material they read and listen to makes sense... but the bottom line? These people are not playing piano the way they would like to, even after spending weeks or months with these tools.

So why aren't they getting the results? What is that missing link?
